She feels it will bring her the independence she craves, but it soon becomes apparent that it will not.

She disguises herself as John a young boy approaching manhood and sets off to Cambridge to scholar with the masters, where she meets Duncan who soon becomes her savior and teacher. He cant understand the feelings this young man evokes in him, and the pair become inseparable as good friends. Gradually, Duncan realizes it is not healthy to have feelings for John as he does, and struggles to contain it, He accidentally discovers that John is truly a woman and agrees to help her to continue to learn and keep her secret.

This proves difficult as they both fight feelings neither expected to have. As the sexual chemistry grows between them, Jane realizes that there is more to being a woman than a man and Duncan is determined to teach her the true pleasures of being a woman. It must have been difficult to keep up the appearance of a man, in such a turbulent time of 1388, but Blythe Gifford captures the era well. We have seen storys of this type in Twelfth Night and most of Shakespeares plays the men played the women.

I really enjoyed the book its a great read.
