After a disagreement with the nuns who ran the orphanage, he made his escape and proceeded to have an adventurous train ride back to his hometown.

During the ride, he met many interesting travel companions including hobos, tramps, runaways and desperadoes. Some of his travel companions were kind and generous. Some were calloused and mean. His goal was to simply survive the trip, but in the process he comforted some of his companions while he brought others to justice.
